Some time later they managed to decrypt part of the Tome of Strahd (to give the book more use I wrote up a bunch of passages of varying length they can try to decrypt for clues) where Strahd wrote about the image of his home beyond the fog. The cleric cast "Detect Evil and Dead" near her as she "slept", but due to magic no undead presence was detected. They returned to the winery together, and they all stayed there overnight. Anyways they eventually found Yana at Yester Hill staring off at the fascicle of Strahd's home town beyond the fog wall, and Strahd didn't do that good of a job hiding how much he wished he could go there.though the party didnt pick it up at all and didn't roll an insight check. Because of this the party thought she was a vampire. Yana is also the form used when Strahd forced the coffinmaker to help him, and when the party interrogated him he said that a woman matching Yana's description told him to do it. This lead to Izek and the Burgomaster dying, with Fiona taking control. She introduced the party to Lady Fiona Wachter, calling her a "family friend", which is true even if the party remembered insight checks exist. Strahd's current disguise is "Yana Krovzlaya" (Krovzlaya means "Cursed blood" according to google translate), a woman in her mid 30s that acts as a botanist. TLDR: Make Strahd's disguise a woman and the party will never guess she is Strahd. Once all of the vestiges, Rahadin and Baba Lysaga are dead then Strahd will stay dead the next time he's killed. They can only die once all of the coffins containing the vestiges are destroyed. If Baba Lysaga or Rahadin die, they are brought back in 1d4 days by the combined powers of the Vestiges in the amber temple. However as agents of the Dark Powers, they themselves are being kept alive. Baba Lysaga and Rahadin are unknowingly agents of the Dark Powers, and both must die before Strahd can.
#CURSE OF STRAHD REDDIT SERIES#
I have it so Strahd is being kept immortal through a series of metaphorical locks and keys. He's grown tired of this game, and as such he told the party that if they manage to kill him, to ensure its permanent this time. Strahd hasn't been a vampire lord of Barovia for 400 years, he's been lord for 2000 years and has died and come back multiple times already. Grave are castigaciounes 'gainst traytours, pardee!" Thou hightest Godfrey? Swich name I know not. V: (Pausing) "Decepcioun will not bye your lyfe, knight. G: "Vladimir, it's me, don't you remember? Your Godfrey? Please, my heart. V: "Alack, knight? Wherefore doth the ded roam about with quik? Traison, then knight - brothers alle stand 'gainst yow and þes foles, fol of sly iniquitee." Guy's been dead for 400 years, doesn't get out much, how does he have the same language as modern-day people? Anyway, it's so fun to use Middle English terms, like "quik" for alive, "pardee" for By God!, and, of course, "knight" in Middle English is pronounced how it's spelled, with the hard K and -gh- making the "ch" or deep-throated "haugh" sound.Įx.: When Godfrey wishes to stand with the PCs. My other change I'm proud of is I read several of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in an attempt to teach myself Middle English, and that's what I use for Vladimir Horngaard. Unfortunately, the Wicker Man only has a 10-foot reach, and Spirit Guardians is a 15-foot Aura. I am really proud of this (obviously Wicker-Man-inspired) rewrite. The player inside the Wicker Man can try to retrieve the gem, but only burying in the earth of the Winery will get the Wicker Man to lose its connection.
#CURSE OF STRAHD REDDIT PC#
At this moment, the Wicker Man comes to life, and instead of a fight to the death, it's a chase back to the WoW - It takes place over 10 2-min combat rounds, and the Wicker Man only attacks if a PC is in its 10-foot reach - so you either have to risk it and close the gap, or try to do your best with ranged attacks. However, when they arrive at the top, the folk gang up on one PC and muscle that one into the Wicker Man. Drawn to the Hill, the folk are inviting, and ask the PCs to participate in their festival. The PCs are meant to think they're to sacrifice Arabelle, when in reality, she's bait for the PCs. However, they're being manipulated by one of the brides - for their Samhain festival, they have erected an enormous Wicker Man statue, and they have captured Arabelle (instead of her being captured by Bluto). In this version, the mountain folk of Yester Hill are native Barovians who got fed up with their miserable lives in "civilization" and have gone to live off the land and worship "the Old Gods". I'm pretty proud of my Yester Hill rewrite.
